Honored With An Appy

The best apps of the year were celebrated at MediaPost’s Appy Awards event at SXSW. The UnitedHealthcare app created by Modern Climate rose to the top of the crowded Heathcare & Fitness category.

The app, Health4Me, was launched last year to 70 million UnitedHealthcare members. Modern Climate saw the potential to create something different. “For most people the concept of managing their own healthcare is tough,” said Amy Betty, Engagement Director at Modern Climate. “An app like this has the power to enable healthy living and improve quality of care by simplifying and streamlining access to healthcare resources.” The Appy judges agreed, stating, “Healthcare behemoths generally aren’t known for their embrace of new technologies,” while comparing the experience to that of brands like Apple and Honda. “The Health4Me app feels like a revelation.”

Luke Oeth Promoted to ECD

Modern Climate has promoted Luke Oeth to the role of Executive Creative Director. The move was made to bolster the agency’s creative leadership team after a string of recent wins.

Oeth has a track record of pushing creative boundaries for agencies such as Victors & Spoils, Martin Williams and Periscope. Keith Wolf, Modern Climate’s Chief Creative Officer stated: “Talented creative leaders are easy to spot and hard to lure. Luke is poised to make an impression on the industry and the agency is fortunate to have landed him.” As an awarded Designer and Creative Director, Oeth’s new role will focus on inspiring creative innovations through multi-channel campaigns. “Our wide-open collaborative style and tech know-how create the perfect environment to light up Luke’s talents,” continued Wolf. “He’s like an abnormally large kid in a candy store.”

AdAge Small Agency Award

Modern Climate took silver in AdAge's 2012 Small Agency of the Year awards for the Midwest Region. Woot! Woot! We are humbled by this honor and appreciate the trust our clients afford us in creating work that sets the bar higher. But enough self-congratulations — we have more work to do.

Three Cheers For Three Individuals

While we grow as an agency, we also take pride in cultivating talent from within. To that end, we recently promoted three creative folks to new positions within the agency: Jason Nelson is now Associate Design Director while Patrick Clifford and Mike Rook have both been named Associate Creative Directors. Take a bow, gentlemen and continue pushing creative excellence.

Canines Invade Modern Climate

You might notice a few more furry faces around our offices...well, that's because we've opened our doors to include dogs. Yep, our employee's canine comrades will dutifully bask in strategy plan- ning, creative sessions and general maintenance — completely free of charge. Come say "hi" and possibly scratch a belly or two.

Ideas That Get Attention

Modern Climate's Ideathon was recently selected by The One Show as a finalist for its international annual advertising awards showcase. In web parlance: Woot!Woot! Ideathon was a unique social experiment that featured a Modern Climate copywriter who answered user-submitted creative briefs every 15 minutes. Whew! Making Waves With The Webbys

We are honored to have two projects make it to the finalist round of the 16th annual Webby Awards. Modern Climate's Human Mixtape and Scratch Pad Fever were selected as representing excellence within the Internet for their unique approaches to environmental design and gaming, respectively. To see these projects for yourself, entertain your senses at our Work section.

Power To The Pedal

Minneapolis loves bikes and Modern Climate is no exception. As such, we've recently introduced a fleet of bikes for employees to ride around town on to grab lunch, meet a client or chase down a moment of inspiration. Plus, we also have a handful of diehards to commute on two pedals everyday. In short, to those about to ride, we salute you.

Truth&Robots

Sometimes what we’re up to or interested in needs a little more room than is available here. For those larger thoughts we’ve got our blog, Truth&Robots.
